Many statistical books have bad definitions of a metric (distance), but this one uses a strict inequality instead of less than or equal to symbol. Wiley's reviewers, editors, and the author could not be bothered. This was around the time that Wiley published Saad's book on the numerical solution of eigenvalue problems with a stuttered table of contents (twice on one page). O tempora, o mores!
