Well, you can see what I thought of this film by its 5 star review.
It isn’t what I expected, and that’s why I enjoyed it so much. The various glimpses of BA. I’ve had were in comics or cameos in fighting games, the black was the suit, the hair, the looks, and the attitude. The Rock is the world’s gift against racism. He isn’t black , he’s definitely not white, he’s the vision of an all embracing homo sapien. A mixed race of individuals that ignore skin colour completely.
This iteration of BA is given an origin story, you get to see why his attitude is dark. He doesn’t struggle with moral dilemmas, he follows his own code, which is creatively excellent, but hard to digest for audiences that do like to define their heroes and villains with a heavy polarity.
So, yes, Black Adam does realise the need for fairness and laws, but prefers to use both flexibly in pursuit of his ultimate goal… Justice.
Dwayne Johnson, born for this role, doesn’t ham it up. No sign of the glance to us in camera, no cocked eye and no, we don’t get to smell what the Adam is cooking’. Supported by an impressive cast, all who bring earnest and solid displays of acting, special mention to a very suave and sophisticated Pierce Brisbane who oozes charm and security.
So I’m impressed. And a little saddened the rest of the public weren’t .
There was room here for a franchise. DC aren’t swimming in heroes and villains of the ultimate calibre, with Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and….
Exactly my point.
I hope this develops. I think, looking at DC movies, it won’t.
