A wonderful movie, and a very sad one. No happy ending here. The interaction of the cast is perfect and despite the film depicting what could be the dreariness of survival, it is in fact an affirmation of love. Each character is flawed and is trying to create the family they never had by doling love out to each other, even if in a reserved way. that is what is so uplifting. It is one of those films that linger on, long after you have seen it. And what an eye opener about the hidden outcasts of Japanese society,
