If you're a Terminator fan (which I am), then this no-frills FPS is good fun and an enjoyable timesink.
4/5
The story isn't convoluted, the skill development trees are simple to use, the in-game GFX (when set to optimum) are good enough..except the terrible motion-captured NPC's who, quite frankly, looked so dated it hurt my eyes...but the pleasure of blowing up Skynet's forces is joyous.
I just cannot help but feel this is some 8-10 years too late though.
It's like a game that should have been out quite some time back.
We all know that very few big license tie-in's ever turn out to be any good (with few exceptions) and I couldn't help feel slightly underwhelmed by Terminator: Resistance...but what was I expecting?
Even on extreme difficulty, it still didn't really challenge.
There's too much ammo to use, not enough use of sneaking and I just didn't feel overwhelmed at any point by Skynet's forces.
Even the HUGE robots were easy enough to destroy once you worked out their patterns/abilities.
TBH, I mostly died by simply being dumb...like accidentally firing a rocket at my feet, shooting a trip mine and being too close to it, etc.
Later in the game, after I had leveled up, I felt superhuman compared to the lame AI controlling the Terminators.
Simply strife left to right behind a stack of building and they couldn't focus on you.
Sure, you do feel somewhat 'hunted' until you can use reach a skill level to use the pulse rifles...and I enjoyed that aspect.
It reminded me of genuinely being afraid, as in Alien: Isolation...where you had no recourse but to run, hide and cack yourself at every noise!
But after I leveled up, I was a Terminator wrecking machine and would just charge at them.
But despite what I've written here in a negative way, the game was fun...and computer games are meant to be fun, an escape from reality and something to enjoy.
So, for those reasons, Terminator: Resistance gets a 4/5...because I love the Terminator universe (especially the 'Future War scenario), I like FPS games and I like dumb fun games where I can scream "HAVE IT!!" at the computer.
This fits all that.
:-)
PS: The sex scenes are just awkwardly hilarious.
