What a moving masterpiece! Words fall short when I want to applaud the storytelling, message and the acting - Neena Gupta as usual spectacular but can we talk about Aqsa Siddiqui? It's been a long time since I saw a child this young act so effortlessly and naturally. It's surreal how Aqsa manages to comprehend the demands of the character and story, and capture the complex emotions and psyche of Chhoti and fit right in. Spellbound! The movie manages to shed light on so many important social issues within 1.5 hours without once seeming rushed or forced. This is the kind of cinema India needs to be putting forward internationally. No unnecessary music, dance, drama. 100% pure storytelling. Please watch this movie, you won't be disappointed.

What a movie! Heart-wrenching in every bit, yet so real and raw. Stellar performances by all. Has left me in tears and with a heavy heart. Cinema like this is a driving force for societal change - at least that's what one can hope for. Just watching and appreciating it as a movie is not enough; each of us needs to take a step back and see how we're leading our own lives and treating those around us and implement these hard-hitting lessons in our lives. Easter egg that I noticed: 3 mins 40 seconds into Vaanmagal, when Satya is at the shop, you can see that the newspaper in the background shows what happens in Oor Iravu - The headlines reading "Father poisons daughter" with photos of Prakash Raj and Sai Pallavi.
