The critics through their simple reviews and emphasis on the length of the movie, did not clarify. When the movie came out, as did.movies premiering at that time, there was what was called " Intermissions". This is still done in live theater, but not so much in movie theatre. The movie was over 4 hours taking time to build this iconic story. Mr De'mille did a fantastic job. I still watch it at least once a year at home, where I can take intermissions anytime!
