Intentionally cold, the film is a psychological experience of science-fiction. The lighting, the colours, the framing, everything pieces together to toe the line of reality and the absurd. Many people have an issue with the kabuki-esque sound design, but since kabuki is intentionally bizarre, I believe it fits. Maybe it's too artsy to be universally fulfilling, maybe I'm just being pretentious.
If you're looking for anything scary or thrilling, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a calm sense of dread and horror, this is the movie for you.
