The idea of an Hispanic woman as star, a woman who has a father who's been in America forever but who's "illegal," is a risky and yet sound character to build a series upon.
I understand the negative criticism of the series' similarity to the first teenage series, "Roswell," but I reject it on any number of grounds. For one thing, enjoy it; don't compare it. It's popular culture, not high culture, and besides, high culture imitates, too.
I think the cast is strong; I like the quality of the writing and the story arc of the first season. The producers and writers have a lot to build on; I'm looking forward to season two.
