I was so stoked for this movie, but it’s literally just The Show in 4K, with clips of the girls being like “Yeah wow it’s been 5 years already!” and “All I remember is we worked really hard,” and many “Thanks Blinks, we couldn’t have done it without you!” Of course none of this is the girls fault, but if you have already paid for and watched The Show then this movie is a waste of money. Really. I’ve never gone out of my way to rate a movie until watching this.
YG already gives us so little of BLACKPINK and barely lets them put out any music. When I saw the advertisement for the movie I was like “even though I wish they were instead having a comeback, at least the fans are getting some new content!” but that’s not what this was at all. I was awestruck the entire movie that this greenlit.
To their credit, I think they tried to do some sort of timeline as to BLACKPINKS journey by covering their 2019 tour, mentioning Coachella, and then replaying all of the show. However, because BLACKPINK has done so little this timeline flies by. Sure they have been on a five year journey, but YG hasn’t allowed BLACKPINK to fill that journey with content. I think this is why they needed to just replay The Show—there was no other content for producers to fill the 1 hour and 40 minute time slot.
The whole movie felt like it could have been a fan made video because there was so little new content. Really, the trailer essentially covers all of the new content given in this movie. I know BLINKs are excited, but don’t give YG your money for this one—seriously. It feels like a cash grab at the expense of BLACKPINK and their fans.
