(Long-ish review)
TLDR: Disappointing fight mechanics, no local co-op, feels poorly made, many bugs or errors, not worth 40 dollars.
Bought this game to play with friends, and honestly wish I would've ended up just getting Doom or something else instead.
I hadn't heard much about it but the Gamestop employee told me "Yeah it's a good game, I've played it".
It's mediocre, it's not horrible but it feels more like a free online pc game from 2014 than a 40 dollar game from 2020. Wouldn't really pay money for it and honestly regret trusting someone's recommendation without checking the reviews first.
There's a Co-op feature but here's the thing, you have to be on different consoles. A lot of multiplayer games, like take Halo, for instance, have a split-screened option so you and your teammates can play on the same console together. This game, being mainly dependent on literally have a group with you, does not have that feature. That feels a little ridiculous to me, especially when it's a DnD game.
I'd be willing to sort of get past the co-op thing if the rest of the game was amazing, but it's sadly not. This game is riddled with bugs, errors, and just weird fight mechanics. It's hard to target enemies, and you can't really switch between them very well. It's honestly extremely annoying to have to move the whole camera around before you can target the next enemy.
The gameplay is extremely repetitive, as well. We didn't even get through the first level before we were bored. All the camps were laid out the same, the enemies got harder but not by much and they didn't seem to vary much between camps either. It's very easy to be good at the game, which, can be good but at the same time, that removes the whole learning process and trial and error that makes some games fun.
Wouldn't recommend it unless you can download it free on Xbox Gamepass or PS+ because it is not worth 40 dollars to play. I really wish I could say differently, but unless there is a massive overhaul or remaster of the game to remove the bugs, adding necessary features in my opinion I feel are lacking, or even just adding local co-op, I can't in all sincerity give it a good rating.
