This show is a prime example of writers advancing the plot at all costs, even if the sacrifice to reach a point in the story means turning your lead and support characters into incompetent idiots at any moment.
The cascade of bad decisions flow through every episode and can possess anyone at any given time. It's as if the writers wrote the last 5 minutes of the season, in order to promote the 2nd season, and then just worked carelessly backwards from there. By the end, I actually had massive envy for the dead father because he didn't have to endure seeing his kids become absolute failures.
