It was a good movie. A simple film with a clear objective. I throughly enjoyed it. One thing to note is that the movie, though mostly historically accurate, left out the fact thay it was american soldiers were the ones that funded the korean runners in the Boston marathon. This detail was left out and the US military government was instead portrayed in a negative light. This didn't bother me too much but just make sure to consider the politics behind the movie as you enjoy it. Korea at the time was ruled by a US military lead government as this was recently after WW2 and korea had just gotten independence from Imperial Japan.

Watched this movie instead of reading Hamlet for my English class. Overall, the movie was interesting and easy to follow. Beautiful soundtrack, solid choreography and structure. One thing I hated about the movie is the cheesiness of some of the acting. It goes overboard most of the time but I gave it the benefit of the doubt due to the fact this movie came out at 1996. It can be confusing at times, especially during Hamlet's soliloquys, but that is all due to the language in which Hamlet was written in. I think this is a good movie for an audience that has already read Hamlet and would like a visual representation of it. (It does a good job at this) I do not think this movie is enjoyable for gen-z kids looking for something to watch on netflix.

As a Korean-American, I was worried this movie was gonna be too one sided and nationalistic. Instead, it showed the crimes and sympathies of both sides, clearly displaying what the Korea War truly was. It was less of communism vs capitalism, instead just two brothers fighting one another. The Korean War was truly a tragedy and I am glad this movie displayed that instead of using it as an opportunity to inspire South Korean Nationalism. If you're looking for something that is emotional, violent and real, this movie is for you. 5/5 all the way
