Forced inclusion is pandering, not equality. And shock value for the sake of shock value is inept storytelling. Here's some food for thought. If you want to create characters that embody diversity, you don't wreck previous stories or characters to prop up your new ones. I don't go take a dump on George Washington Carver's tombstone because I create something new with peanuts. Don't ruin other stories, characters, or history just because you think it's the only way to tell someone elses' story.
