The warrior/assassin nun trope is one that I enjoy beyond measure and have read many books about. I was excited (and nervous) about Warrior Nun being turned into a TV series, but was hoping to be happily surprised. I was not. My expectations were not very high and somehow, they still fell through the floor.
While I can get past poor acting and slow character development, especially since the cinematography and soundtrack are decent, I cannot get over the horrendous writing that came out of this show. The first person narration made me want to crawl out of my skin, it was so cringey. The plot points make no sense at all and the dialogue is beyond painful. Even as a teenager (we've all been there) I never said to myself "Keep talking pretty boy, all I see is lips I want to kiss." Things like "I shouldn't be doing this, but I am going to do it" do not need to be said aloud in shows - we should be able to get that from context. Never in my life have I felt so viscerally disturbed by lines in a TV series as I did when Ava was self-narrating. I am appalled that multiple production executives sat down, watched this show, and said to themselves, "Yes, this is quality content that I want to put forth into the world." Truth be told, when no one is talking, this is a decent show to watch. Perhaps consider watching it on mute.
