The Highs:
For all the heavy songs it definitely has that classic Disturbed feel to it, with some very dark and hard hitting riffs, great work on the drums, David Draiman's vocals booming and yet soothing to the ears, and most of the same lyrical power
Most songs do have staying power, and are just different enough to stick in your mind and keep you wanting to come back to listen again
'A Reason To Fight' is the perfect ballad, and fits Disturbed's style very well, despite it being softer than most other songs
The deluxe version released on the same day, which provides even more for you to listen to if you like the initial songs of the album
The Lows:
There are only ten songs in this album, drifting away from the average of twelve song albums, not too much shorter than average, but still short enough for the lack of length to be noticeable, even if it's still forty-three minutes long.
Four of the ten songs are ballads, which feels weird for a Disturbed album, especially 'Watch You Burn', which feels like it's an acoustic version of something that should be heavier. Granted, i enjoy the ballads, they're good, but it feels like a bit much
The placements of the songs are a just little jarring on occasion
The deluxe version released on the same day, which brings up the actual amount of original songs on the album (Not counting the live version of 'Sound of Silence' and remix of 'Are You Ready') to twelve, comparatively to the Immortalized deluxe edition, which has a full sixteen songs (counting the 'Sound of Silence' cover). And 'Uninvited Guest', which i yet again expected to be heavier, is yet another ballad.
How I Would've Improved This Album:
I would remove 'Hold on to Memories', and change 'Watch You Burn' to be a heavier song. Take 'This Venom' from the deluxe and put it on to the main album. Then shift the position of 'A Reason to Fight' to be the half way point of the album, followed immediately by 'Stronger on Your Own', and maybe shift around some of the other songs too. Add one or two other heavy songs. And finally, release the deluxe edition later on, giving more time to make extra songs.
Final Verdict:
In many ways, this album is both fantastic and extremely disappointing, this is overall my least favorite Disturbed album out of them all, but I'm definitely going to come back to some of the songs on it, as a lot of it is pretty great.
I would say, that if this is really the way that Disturbed wants to go, and their other fans can enjoy it more than i can, then i won't judge them for that. If any of you like it more, then that's great, but, I'm not personally feeling it quite that much.
