I loved this book!
Recently having lost her husband, Ivy makes the decision to move to Japan to be with an emotionally distanced daughter and grandchildren she doesn't know. This intrepid 78 year old is faced with having to find her way in an alien world where not only distance, language and culture are challenging, but where family connections are fraught with a complicated history providing little comfort or support.
This story is full of tenacity, courage and heart. It sends the message that no matter what age we are called upon to be brave, and not merely accept life, but to tackle the obstacles in our path and figure out a way to thrive. It teaches us that age, fragility and grief, don't necessarily limit us if we find the courage to test our capacities. Life at any age holds new adventures if we are willing to seek them.
This book is well conceived, well written and Ivy is a character that will capture your heart.
