Not a great start to the release. I can only talk for career mode, which has been abysmal so far for 23. The manager mode loses most of the immersion through the awfully unrelated media at the end of each game and players starting in random positions they haven't been assigned. WORST of all is player career. I thought it may have just been a one off season bug but I've tried 5 different times and encountered the same game breaking bug - player match ratings. Broke a league goal scoring record with bundle of hattricks and an obscene amount of assists and didn't manage a rating higher than 9.0 once. Key passes, crosses, positioning, runs, skill are all barely recognised and even a hattrick and two goals is only good enough for a 'good' performance, whereas a teammate manages an 8.5 for one assist. This means transfers are nearly impossible and getting into the starting 11 (scoring braces from the bench) is also difficult. This has never been an issue in previous games and totally destroys the game mode. Instead of a working and realistic manager performance review, you get to buy and invest in make-believe trampolines and treadmills to justify another menu in the updated menu simulator mode you have to play before you get to a match. Once again it seems that time has been put into a few different animations, a bit of HUD change and of course the micro-transactions and not career mode.
The gameplay is okay. It's a little slow and clunky, but fifa always has been known for dodgy friendly AI that move or roll over in convenient times for the opposition. I can live with this as I'm accustomed to it but the player career match ratings in particular need to be fixed immediately as the whole game mode is rendered unplayable.
