David Macarelli

This was indeed a trap for the average viewer, they took a guy who used to be a star, but has only done a couple of average films in the last 10 years and not much more than that, and they took a director who has four pretty good films to his name and another 15 garbage projects. It was bound to be a train wreck. It ha's always been my opinion that certain directors only have a certain number of good films in their tank, and that is certainly the case with this guy, he had four good films in his tank. I don't think he'll ever do another good film, so why don't we all collectively just avoid every single thing that he does, and save ourselves some time and save ourselves some grief? This film was absolutely horrendous, the direction, the writing, the plot devices, none of them worked. The pop star, and the daughter didn't work, the wife didn't work, Hartnett didn't work. Nothing about this film worked. How does Hollywood continue to produce such garbage? I can't imagine that they read the script and said oh yeah this is really clever. Hollywood is so tired it is so creatively bankrupt. The question that comes to mind for me is why are Hollywood movies so terrible these days and why is there so much great TV, why such a dilemma?

I really wanted to like this film but it felt like there was absolutely nothing there. I did not understand why these two would be a fit for each other, they really were not. There was not much of a romance, yet pathological jealousy? Huh? Really? The film was alot of nonsensical diatribe, the movie just did not make sense on any level, it was barely funny, and it was just a tiring story. I felt like I was in the middle of a junior high school group, and they were not interesting kids. It was a good period production, but what a waste. I was only able to get through it with a sense of long-suffering pain and difficulty. This was no Magnolia or Boogie Nights! Perhaps his best work is behind him. There are a lot of good movies out there, please please do not waste your time. At least wait for it streaming or on DVD, and that way you can fast forward through the nonsense scenes. It very, very manipulative and it felt very, very indulgent on the part of Anderson Well made, but utterly pointless.

This is an excellent film. Great cast, direction, soundtrack, characters, and story. Highly recommended.

What can one say? The cultural bankruptcy of Hollywood continues, unabated. There is barely any story here, and the action sequences are 20 minutes too long. Well, without them, I guess there is not much of a film. Another film, with a young boy you just want to strangle. This film was toxic on so many levels. Beyond the complete lack of substance, the franchise still fails to understand what makes Hemsworth such a compelling screen presence. He has an enviable physique, sure, but most actors with a trainer, dietician, and enough time could achieve similar brawn. Hemsworth's rare levels of charm and comic timing are what truly set him apart, but Extraction 2 saddle him with a part that requires so little of him above the neck. The films feature plenty of well-choreographed action, but Rake could've been played by a less talented actor with no real impact on the results. Extraction 2 gives Hemsworth a little more to do than its predecessor - he gets to wink at a cute kid and say a few lines that get smirks - but the movie still wastes his talent. This film was as vapid as John Wick 4. Glad I had the remote in my hand.
