The construction of the story tells you from the beginning to expect the gaps that are filled in only when you stop thinking in simple linear terms of the timeline. I bet it has a birthplace from the concept of the fifth dimensional others in interstellar. Nolan never fails to deliver. Great acting, dialogue and directing. The intensity is built up to suck you in, the dialogue is witty and explanatory yet not oversimplifying of the concept at hand.
