The Red Planet, published the year I was born, was the first book I ever read cover to cover in the 4th grade. At the time it was inspiring to think we humans could one day live on Mars and at the same time face all the same petty greed and corporatism that we could see at that time and we see today. It was typical juvenile pulp fiction with a science fiction bent. I LOVED IT. I went on to read every science fiction book the school library had that year and with my allowance bought every book written by Robert Heinlein. I still have them all and will be passing them all down to one of my great grandsons who just so happens to love science fiction too.. GREAT BOOK!!
