A movie with good intentions and a few good moments. Sadly, it misses the mark by a wide margin. Casting is poor ; perhaps dame Judi Dench's worst role, though she does her best. Butler is relegated to comic relief, which is criminal, and Juliette may as well not be there. Most importantly the 'criminal mastermind' aspect of the Fowel family is undercut throughout. Nuance is apparently too much to ask for.
The only greater crime than this is the utterly banal portrayal of Opal Koboi. A fun and interesting character reduced to a hood and a voice changer.
On the upside Artemis and Holly do well and the sound direction is great. I hope they continue, but there are a lot of issues to address to make it right.
Also, why is Mulch giant? I mean he was the best part of the movie but why is he man sized? Am I just misremembering the books?
