The script really let this movie down. It was almost tragic to see such incredible actors desperately pedalling ludicrously long lines trying to shoe in big chunks of the background story.
The lead role Nicholas was ruined by the terrible screenplay and made poor Henry lawful seem well, lAWFUL. He failed to delivery a single line convincingly.
(Spoilers) when his father cut the sled loose he goes from devastation at the loss of a second parent to acceptance in about 30 seconds.
In their haste, the essence of the story and the genuine magic we felt at discovering where Father Christmas came from was completely lost. Such a shame we were so looking forward to this after devouring the book series last Christmas.
My daughter thought it was ok, but she’s only 8. It says a lot that she was underwhelmed and didn’t express any desire to watch it again any time soon.
