surprise, surprise! I did not expect this to be as layered and interesting as it was but here we are. Ryan the temp did well! I loved the characters. rich, layered, charming. the story unravels in a way that keeps you locked in. the final act had problems with pacing but this was by no means overwhelming. this is a great film. well worth considering.

enter the world of Breen and thank me later. albeit the intended effects will fall flat, there is a bucket of gold to be appreciated. while many of Breen’s earlier films suffer from the problem of dead air, this title in particular will have you in stitches. five stars — not for the artistry presented but rather for the experiences this movie has given me.

Bong Joon-ho mesmerizes as usual in this dark thriller. Kim Hye-ja is attention grabbing and intoxicating. a maze of hypnotic and persuasive question. Mother is a finely sharpened cinematic masterpiece.

this is a beautiful film. one of Nicholson’s best performances. his subtlety will break your heart. I was blown away. advisory: the ending will make you cry like a baby.

fantastic cinematography, great performances, and fun tension, but it lacked a certain substance that it seemed to be reaching for the entire time. I will admit, it was way better than I thought it would be; personally, I feel as though Shyamalan is a one hit wonder… in any case, I enjoyed this movie. loved seeing Jonathan Groff! and man — Dave Bautista blew me away; what a mesmerizing portrait of mettā and menace.

the tone kept jumping around and never landed anywhere. the characters were interesting for a while, I guess. the pacing is awful. the final act drags and overstays its welcome.

Jordan Peele gives us something to talk about again with NOPE. this is a fun sci-fi horror with (as expected) poignant social commentary. albeit much of the message feels muddled at times, the substance is there nonetheless. and although I felt like the film’s final act was a bit too ambitious, it managed to transfix me all the same, perhaps merely for its novelty. beyond this, it looks great — amazing visuals and spooky spooks. all of the performances are on point. above all, this movie wants you to have fun and I did.

Cronenberg returns doing what he does best. albeit body horror has always been a bit of a reach in terms of my broader interests, Crimes of the Future is more than cerebral enough to consider beyond shock value. a dystopian philosophical blunder about what it means to be human.

the title character was played and written too vanilla “straight man,” for me; the original twitter thread makes Zola out to be much more colorful in expression. I take issue with this dampening in narrative. even still, Riley Keough’s performance is quite convincing and entertaining to watch. much of the movie is humorous in nature, not too on the nose; clever enough to consider. give it a watch if you think you can handle A24’s treatment of stripper world shenanigans. advisory: I rolled my eyes a lot.

this is the best Batman movie you will ever watch. The Batman feels like a love letter to the caped crusader. the chemistry between Pattinson and Kravitz is magnetic. both give outstanding performances. Farrell and Dano are as engaging and convincing. the entire cast kills it. the cinematography is perfection. the score is perfection. everything. this movie is perfect. this is the perfect Batman movie.
