I liked the show because of the message it portrayed. Do not let the devil in. Mae escaped the cult but not the trauma. So did the psychiatrist, she escaped her parents home but never healed her trauma. The doctor ended up repeating the cycle with her own daughters. Mae ended up repeating the cycle she learned with her father. Some people did not understand why the psychiatrist would choose Mae over her family, that is because Mae made her a sacrifice on that alter she created in the woods with all the things her family cared about. She basically manipulated the whole situation to her advantage by using her relationship with the devil. Everyone suffered in the end from letting the devil in.
