I went in as a James Gunn fan and left excited to see how he handles the rest of the DCU! I loved James Gunn's work on the Guardians of the Galaxy movies so I was really excited to see he was heading a Superman movie. I think the cast does a great job playing their roles. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan do fantastic as Superman and Lois, respectively, and Nicholas Hoult plays the best Lex Luthor since Gene Hackman. While the movie throws a lot of side characters at you like the Justice Gang and Jimmy Olsen, they never felt out of place (at least to me). Plus, James Gunn's humor, while not perfect, shines through here. However, I feel the movie was a bit too short. At just a bit over 2 hours, the plot feels a bit rushed, but that doesn't totally ruin the movie for me, even if I understand why it would for some people. Maybe I'm just used to movies being closer to 3 hours, idk. In short, Superman 2025, while flawed, is still a great movie I would highly recommend, and might just prove that after years of trying, DC can finally give Marvel the competition it deserves.
