A feel good movie, welcoming all to come home and feel loved. Even those dirty, outcast hippies!
Yet what has happened to those Jesus Freaks in 50 years? They've turned into their parents and are closing the doors to all who don't fit the white Evangelical mold. Its a feel good for the moment, and then what? The church does not have the tools to handle the wounded.
Jesus was not a Christian. He is not the founder of Christianity. Jesus never encouraged people to worship him. Christianity is a religion created in the name of Jesus, and is much different from the actual truth that Jesus taught and lived.
Were Jesus alive today, he would not be a Christian. Jesus is still one of best-kept secrets because his truth has been grossly distorted by those who claim to speak for him. There is a religion-free Jesus who belongs to all of humankind. Christianity does not own or have first rights to Jesus. His truth has universal significance.
It's a mistake to make Jesus a religious figure or front man for Christianity or a revolution. You have to disentangle Jesus from what we hear at church to find the truth he said would set us free. Christianity happened but that's not Jesus' fault.
Post revolution...If we've learned anything, WE are the Saviors the world is looking for. People go to church to find acceptance, love and relationship. Young people today can find that in many other group endevours.
