Just saw this wonderful, engrossing film today 😊 The story grabs you & doesn't let up: what will happen to Rickey? Great cast & acting throughout, a tearjerker but very satisfying. I was startled to see men & boys of all ages in the crowded audience wearing baseball caps! My husband enjoyed it too, a baseball fan all his life. The film is set in Texas & has a strong overall Depression-era atmosphere, persistent & interesting. Many powerful moments & scenes contrast nicely with some lighter humor. Dennis Quaid, as Rickey's dad, has compelling crises of faith. Country star Randy Houser does a nice turn as one of Rickey's biggest supporters from early boyhood on. Scott Glenn plays the famous talent scout you love to hate. Everyone brings their A game & it shows. I expect to see actor Colin Ford, who plays a luminous 16-year-old Rickey, appear soon in other films. The young actor who played Rickey's loyal older brother Robert (Mason Gillett) is also excellent & I trust he'll appear in more films too. See this alone or with others, it's suitable for any audience, but see it ~ you'll be glad you did!
