The Holiday was chosen as a book club choice by one of our members. . T.M. Logan is a new author for me, but I’ll definitely be looking at other books he’s written.
This Thriller was read whilst I was in isolation in Quarantine in Perth Australia. I was hooked straight away, four friends from Uni getting back together after an absence to go on holiday to a luxurious villa in Provence as they turn 40 with husbands and kids coming along too.
I liked how the characters were built up, especially as I didn’t like them all. How the story unfolds as the holiday goes along how it has such twists and turns in the narrative.
It kept me wanting to turn that page.
Kate who is the main character believes her husband Alex is having an affair with one of her best friends on holiday with her.
There in the plot and the thriller starts.
The aspect which was particularly powerful and made me think was the ‘mobile phone /social media aspect. It certainly made me think how intrusive and all consuming it is to todays youngsters. How they are glued to their phones and cannot go anywhere without it. It’s 24/7 for them, they don’t get any respite.
The description of the villa and surrounding area was really good I could imagine the scenes and it certainly added to the drama.
The ending is brilliant. No spoiler alert you have to read to the end.
I’m looking forward to it coming out as a film or series as it’s definitely got hugh potential to be made into one.
