It is a bad 47 Meters Down sequel.
Well, maybe not a sequel but at least it is related
I have read a lot of reviews that were describing the bad points and plot holes of the movie and I cannot disagree with them.
I was about to do the same and when I completed my review, I noticed that something had not been said yet.
Many viewers complain about the fact that the name is misleading, as the movie has nothing to do with the first 47 Meters Down, but I have to disagree.
No, they are not 47m down, that is misleading (just like Jurassic Park 2 & 3 actually do not take place inside Jurassic Park so... I can buy it). BUT, the whole plot is the same if you take the details away (characters names, locations...). It's 2 sisters that go underwater, sharks show up, everybody that goes underwater but the 2 sisters gets eaten, one sister seems to die but she shows up later alive, they survive fierce shark attacks before being rescued almost dead. The end. Obviously, that's not what you want from a sequel, but at least that is a connection. If the franchise title was not related to the depth of the first one, let's say "Sisters Trapped Underwater", it would have been acceptable (even if nobody would go watch a movie with such a title for sure).
However, the first movie had a plot twist that could take you out of your disbelief and allowed the all thing to make much more sense. Some will say it was good and others won't, but we can agree that this part was unexpected. In this one, you are let down as there is no such thing. The final is what it is, whether it makes sense to survive among 6 hungry Great White Sharks or not. What made me enjoy the first one disappears in this one, that what makes it objectively inferior (well, this, the implausible scenario and the image, which is really not as good as the first one, blurry and all).
