I watched Suzume without any expectations and I was blown away by everything, especially the story. I exceptionally love how Makoto Shinkai touched a subject that is so close and dear to the Japanese people. It also touched many people who once felt as if they had lost themselves, who felt that living never felt fulfilling, and who are searching for the meaning to keep going on.
I saw many people got disappointed about how different it is from the previous movies that he made. I think it is different because this movie is something that Makoto Shinkai wanted to make to preserve Japan's history, loss, and grief. Yet also allowing them to hope for a better future.
Suzume is a movie that reminds us to keep on living, to keep on loving, and to keep on appreciating the beauty of impermanence around us. All good things will eventually come to an end, we ourselves determine how to savor them.
