Godzilla. You know the name, the monster, the myth, the legend. He's been around for 67-68 years as i write this, and 35 films. One of these is simply called Godzilla. It came out in 2014 and was, in my opinion, the very first American Godzilla film in history. Why don't I say that the 1998 film featuring Zilla is the first-ever American G film. Let me explain:
1998's design is atrocious so much that it feels wrong to call it "Godzilla". Zilla is a more appropriate name for the 98 beast. Roland and Tatopoulos did the king of the Monsters DIRTY. The 98 creature does not have Godzilla's iconic atomic breath, and DIES from missiles that would be harmless on Toho's Godzilla. 1998 gave it the ability to burrow, which was stupid. Godzilla 2014 improves on this by making Godzilla more powerful, bigger, and faithful.
The acting is also pretty good, especially with Bryan Cranston as Joe Brody. Wished he lived to reunite with his family and son. You will feel bad for him because Joe's wife died.
Though no Akira Ifukube cues, 2014's Godzilla Soundtrack has pretty good music by Alexander Desplat. It's chilling inclusion of Gregory Legeti's "Kirye", which was also used in 2001: A Space Odyssey, was pretty cool. It will certainly give you chills down your spine.
Godzilla also includes KAIJU FIGHTS. 1998 never had this. The MUTOs where great new editions to the Godzilla Kaiju Roster.
It's overall a good film. 10/10.
