Jun-Hong Sam

Another work of Shinkai. Its top three movies are almost the same. Jesus. The similarities are: 1. They use natural disaster in the story (meteorite, rain/flood and earthquake) 2. It relates to mythodologies/legends/folklores. 3. Same plot structure. Literally the same. What's good about this anime: 1. Animation. Its animation never disappoints me. It's as beautiful as it always has been. 2. The characters. The characters are well-built. They have their own background story and characteristics. 3. The idea. The idea of relating earthquake with some supernatural creatures and Gods, doors, realm of afterlife, etc. Shinkai always has many wonderful ideas, but they are almost the same, but people still like it. 4. The presentation. There are happy part, emotional part, funny part and awkward part and all of them are well-presented to have the audience feel those situation. It's really nice. While the cons are: 1. The plot structure. I am a bit annoyed that Shinkai keeps using the same plot structure. I was like, "not again..." when noticed the similarities of the plot as the other movies made by Shinkai. Like, if he keeps doing that the audience can guess how the story goes. Need something new. 2. The storyline. It's long, confusing and a bit messy. Some people probably need to watch twice to fully understand the movie. There are so many parts in the story. A lot of things happened, a lot of concept you need to understand, you need to think harder to know what's happening. Some parts are a bit boring too, like a slice of life, just for the people to feel relaxed. 3. It's a work of fantasy. Some details in the movie just don't make sense. Like, it encourages the people to think beyond reality. Which is not my preference. Overall. If you are new to Shinkai's movie, you will like it very much. If you are a veteran, you will like it as much as the other shinkai's movie. If you are realist, you will still like it because of it's epic ending. But bothered by some part of the movie. It's really a work of fantasy. I don't know what stores inside Shinkai's mind. He is just built different.
