I have been a huge lord of the rings fan my whole life. I remember as a kid my dad reading the hobbit to me as a bed time story, and just being enthralled in this world that Tolkien created. Now similar to everyone else I was skeptical about a series and I tried to keep my hopes down as to not be disappointed but after seeing the first trailer and the war of wrath I was hyped. I have become very familiar with the extended lore and the unfinished stores that Tolkien wrote about for the time period where this show takes place. And to address the Oliphaunts in the room it does take creative liberties with the story but that makes sense because Tolkien never made a complete story. The show feels like it takes place in Middle Earth the world does feel younger but that makes sense. The magic is perfectly spot on as it doesn’t go the spell route like Harry Potter and keeps true to how Peter Jackson presented magic in lord of the rings. Possible spoilers for the show ahead: I remember my father telling me about the sword “Gurthang” and sword forged from meteorite by a dark elf. This sword was enchanted to make the welder have uncontrollable blood lust. After we talked about we both said how cool it would be to see this inn a movie or a show. And to see Gurthang finally on the screen in the form of the broken black sword that Theo has I am over joyed. This show seems to really be putting its dues and making sure it honors the lore Tolkien created and I’m really excited to see where it goes.
