The new combat system and story climax aren’t enough to make this a good game when everything else feels like a step back from its predecessor. Pokémon is the biggest media franchise in the world, meanwhile lesser titles are creating better games for less.
Quality and gameplay don't have to be mutually exclusive, but the issue is gameplay too. Pokéballs go through the Pokémon. Side quests are 1 of four quests repeated. The atmosphere isn't appealing to look at. The world is small and leaves no desire for exploration. There's no meat to the story; it's like the climax was written and everything else is a filler. Day 1 $30 DLC. Mannequin NPCs standing on streets staring blankly into the abyss.
And even if you do not play the game for the story, you don't care about graphics, even if you just play for the love of catching Pokémon and filling your dex, Arceus did it better.
TL;DR This is the worst Pokemon game for the Switch to date.
Got it with the Switch2 bundle, in case it matters.
