I loved the original last of us. It was the only game that truly stayed with me For years and years. replaying the remastered version several years later in the lead up to last of us 2 being released it was as powerful and amazing as the first time around. Over several years the anticipation for the sequel was huge, I felt that like a lot of others. With the spoilers and backlash around the release it was quite hard to avoid all of that so I knew the main spoiler going in. There were some risks in the storyline but honestly they made this game great. It was brutal, incredibly violent and not an easy game to get through. The first last of us was also brutal, but perhaps not to this degree. But a rehash of the first game with no challenges would not have worked at all. although you start the game with certain thoughts about existing and new characters, those thoughts are challenged and eventually reversed. The reality is that the characters you grew to love in the first game are not the only “good” people in the last of us universe. Storyline aside, the visuals and game play were great. Yes they may not be as advanced as some other games, but this was never that kind of game. Give this a chance and you will be rewarded. Hats off to naughty dog for the amazing work they’ve done with last of us 2 and I do feel for those involved for the backlash that the game has got. Completely undeserved.
