Nag Ashwins Kalki part1 is an overhyped big budget mass masala movie with breathtaking visuals and special effects without having a solid content on it.
Movie started of nicely with the portrayel of war sequences based on Mahabharatam in an elegant way. But that initial impression doesnt last too much.
After getting a solid start things got slipped away and movie became totally dull and boring till first half. After first half things got little momentum with back to back action sequences involving Prabhas and Bachan. But lack of a solid script is visible throughout in the remaining part .
Eventhough the movie having a strong plot line about the comeback of Ashwathma things didn't go in the right direction with a disastrous script work and half baked characters. They have spent around 500 crores to setup the future world and for the VFX which was never seen in any Indian movies. But where is the creativity here? All these bigbudget set work and VFX used were copied from different hollywood movie like Madmax fury road, dune, guardian of galaxy , Avengers etc. If you are a vivid hollywood movie watcher you could bring up many movies
Instead of imitating hollywood movies makers could have given an Indian version to this brilliant plot line with some depth in story and emotions in characters. But they have formulated typical Telugu movie mass masala pattern for story telling and reached its maximum in climax.
In the acting department it was Amitabh bachan in Ashwathma role acted superbly . His presence makes a big difference in the movie. Deepika Padukone, shobana, Pashupathi and Saswath chatterge gave descent performance where as kamal hasan has nothing much to do in this part. Prabhas's acting is a big let down in the movie. He was good in fight scenes but failed miserably in comic scenes and kind of expression less throughout this movie.
Overall I'm totally dissappointed with part 1 of kalki apart from Amitabh bachans superb acting, stunning VFX work and 3d viewing experience . Hoping something better in second part
My rating 1.75/5
