This debut album by Van Halen is best hard rock debut album ever and "Running With the Devil" is the best opening song ever. Starting with the first song, Van Halen is off and running. "Eruption" is a classic Eddie solo and it leads into "You Really Got Me Now" a spin on the Kink's original version. "Ice Cream Man" is DLR at his best playful self. "Ain't Talkin' About Love" is powerful and "Jaime's Cryin'" gives some sympathy to the girl on the other side of a tryst.
VH makes a statement with this iconic album that VH was here to stay. DLR vocals are the weak spot, but Michael Anthony covers for him with outstanding harmony vocals. Alex's drums are good, and Eddie was so good he set the gold standard for those who came after him. He's a legend for a reason and it was obvious from the start. All -in-all, this was best album from the original lineup.
