An incredible portrayal of the horror of Auschwitz vividly contrasted by the sublime life of the German Commandant and his fairytale family depicted by the colour and beautiful flowers of the garden that boundaries the wall between the idyllic and hell. The subtle noise of the screams, shots and visual display of the smoke and flames created an underlining feeling of horror. The introduction which exaggerated the bird song was particularly harrowing as it is commonly known that there is no bird song in any of the concentration camps one can visit in current times. So much could be said about the symbolism throughout this film but the disturbing awareness of what not is seen enhances the shocking awareness of what is actually happening behind the wall.

What a delightful and to quote a popular word in youth culture “wholesome” film. Maybe it’s my age, but it sends a warm message to us older youngsters that anything is still possible. There is sadness as well as great humour in this film but isn’t that part of life.

Absolute rubbish! No idea what this film is about, confused by the ending in fact just confused! Characters implausible, Julia Robert’s should stick to Rom-Com and I can’t even sum up the words to describe the pointless plot!
