An absolute disappointment.
As a fan of the original novel series, I was very looking forward to the adaptation. Not to mention that Wu Lei was casted perfectly as Xiao Yan. But despite all that good foundation, the TV series went ahead and threw it all away.
First off, before I get into the details, I would like to clear something up. I personally am not against change in the story when adapting novels into TV series. In fact I believe it is crucial to do so as both mediums are widely different in presentation, but with the big premise of KEEPING THE CORE OF THE STORY INTACT.
But did the TV series do it?
No, in fact, once again, it threw it all away.
Yes, they THREW IT ALL AWAY. So much were changed and so much were completely cut away/added that the story and the premise of the story itself had became something else.
Which is why at this point, it might as well call itself an alternate universe starring the same characters but with a completely different character relationship and event.
Alright, fine, if that's the case, then as long as they told an interesting story, surely it might even become something better than the original, right?
Oh, how I wish that were the case.
No, not at all.
Not only did they mess up the plot by trying to be an "Ever Night" wanna-be, they also messed up completely when it comes to the presentation and story pacing, not to mention the many plot holes throughout the story, it's just... an untangleable mess.
So, my recommendation? Well, If you have not read the novel at all and simply is searching for an awkward show to laugh on... I suppose, this is a show for you.
