Take 21st century ideals and values and shoehorn them into a historical drama. I'm left with a slightly uneasy feeling as to where this revisionist trend will end.

The BBC have set themselves a huge challenge in adapting a masterpiece of fiction but, having seen the first episode. I think they may just pull it off. Some of the acting was a little forced and it appears that the makers might be adding sub plots to increase the jeopardy but overall I thought it set the tone for a fairly faithful adaptation. Looking forward to the rest.
