Kazou Ishiguro has a particular, somber, reflective style - Bill Nighe captures it perfectly. His characterisation of the dying and burnt out council worker (1953 version) is fantastic, very watchable despite the downbeat nature of the film and the themes. I won’t give anything away but despite the sadness and the film hints at brighter futures for some of the characters - worth a watch and a rewatch in my opinion
