I really wanted to like this film and it WAS a different movie from others in a sense. But the script wasn't particularly good and some of the acting/casting was very poor (apart from the central young boy and the long haired 'junkie' actors. They were great!).
After the long, slow - boring really - start, I found myself wanting the film to be more serious and I started to pick holes in it: why weren't there cameras on the street where the kids end up? Why don't the kids run in the characteristic and eery way at the end of the film? Why does Josh Brolin strangle the main female character for so long at the end? Once the nature of the other main female character was revealed I couldn't take the film seriously at all and it had so much potential to begin with....
