While Rotten Tomatoes gives it thumbs down, several quite respectable venues are thumbs up, including NY Times, WaPo, the Guardian, the Evening Standard, FT, and New Yorker. I enjoyed it, and might never have watched it if I'd seen the rotten tomatoes score. And I didn't find the plot that convoluted - there was a lot of background on the main characters, which went off into different places, each having their own thread. I liked the theme of how we forget our history. I didn't mind the democracy preaching, and even appreciated it.
