Honestly, best sports game ever created out there. Such a nostalgic game, even if you didn't grow up with this game, you've probably heard about it from many a NBA 2K fan or in the recent light of EA bringing back their college football series. Being able to throw half court alley oops, dunk from damn near the three point line, and have Shaq shoot a 3 from basically half court to end the game is alway so priceless especially in a game like this where it’s not about how you play, it’s about how you look doin' it. The reward system is satisfying, building up your Street Legend player is such a dope experience, and collecting your fav NBA Legends from Larry Bird to Wilt Chamberlain to both 96' and 85' Jordan through a slew of Street Challenges is fun, and the gameplay just cannot be topped nearly 18(?) years later.
My only gripe is how little recognition it gets compared to other sports/arcade sports basketball games such as NBA Jam, 2K and even the first NBA Playground game and how small the community is. If there were a larger community, I’m sure there would be some want for a new installment in the series from EA. Seriously, this game has a ton of untapped potential that I’m waiting on from a community of modders to discover. My only last problem is if EA eventually lets go of their money hungry ways and seeks redemption and started by either making a new installment in this series or remaking/remastering this one plus the other two, would it work with how EA conducts business today or would it just look like a less feature complete 2K?
