Dumb Angel

Admittedly kept me watching to the end but only in the hope that something would occur in the last ten minutes to explain the prior eighty minutes clearly....alas, it never.

Absolute garbage! Turned off at 30 mins, wish it'd been 3. The female character in this film is sooooooo annoying, wittering on about absolutely nothing whilst a guy who's barely anything more than a lost Brooklyn dude gets chased by giant alien arachnoids. Good CGI but even as a comedy a woeful script.

Admittedly I'm being a little premature with this review as I've only seen the first episode but will be watching the rest soon. I needed to get this down now though, the first episode is an extremely poignant and heart wrenching introduction. I've seen plane crash reenactments countless times in film and TV but this episode stands out amongst those most haunting. I really empathised with the actors portrayal of that horrible grief that so many relatives of this tragedy must still carry to this day.

Not sure about this. It seems that it's trying to be something beyond what it actually is . A depiction of the possible psychotic outcome following an addiction to crack cocaine? Yes. The risks of leaving single female staff members on a night shift? Maybe. A decent psychological horror film, No, not really. I've seen several films that dedicate their closing sequences to an explanation of the events in the earlier parts of the script, so it's use here is not unique. Whilst the character Jake clearly is unhinged, I just wasn't convinced as to the feasibility of his descent into chaos and blood letting. I did sit through it with interest but felt a little perplexed at the end. Jessica Belkin is beautiful but might want a better script next time.

Enjoyable enough and without giving much away, it would seem this could be the first film in a series. Presumably that will depend on the success of this initial outing. A decent 'creature' feature with an extraterrestrial origin. It isn't the best of it's kind (A Quiet Place) but I've seen a lot worse (Arcadian).

Can't disagree with the general consensus on this one, a brilliant show with all the comedic and darker elements balanced almost to perfection. My only quibble is the length of the episodes and seasons overall (too short), you do feel wanting for a bit more at the end. That's to the show's credit, it's that watchable. Really hoping for a season 3! 👍

** CAUTION: Spoiler may be here ** Highly recommended but be sure to watch the original first as there are some closure scenes in the first quarter hour that link in. The original is still the best IMHO but this film leaves most of it's horror with the imagination of the viewer which is an extremely effective tactic from director Parker Finn. Naomi Scott is excellent as the increasingly unhinged main character but for me the performance of Sosie Bacon in the original is the gold standard. A small bit of screen time to Ray Nicholson (son of Jack) doesn't go unnoticed and he does mimic that psycho grin of his father (The Shining - truly a masterpiece but that's another review). The sequel retains the sense of ultimate doom and despair throughout although the ending is a little too formulaic for my taste. Still this film haunts, taunts and lingers. I would have preferred maybe trapping the 'demon/metaphysical entity' in the freezer near the end, thereby basing the likely third film on a deeper analysis into the entity's origin rather than it spreading to thousands of screaming fans of Skye Riley as appears the case (can this happen? A question for the next film perhaps 😲). The possibility of a solution to the 'possession' as suggested by Morris the ER nurse would have been a good angle to explore further. Amateur ideas aside I would love a third film so🤞. As very much a fan of horror, the two Smile movies so far are standing in the pile of 'more original and well executed' amidst the endless stream of the genre.

Despite a rather unexciting start this show ultimately tips just into the favourable zone. The story is OK and the "trap" at the centre of it results in some gruesome moments to please the horror fans. I was disappointed with the alien transfer process (wow, bet that strained the FX department, not) and wanted more depth on WHY are they here, but instead it's more like an episode of Neighbours at times.The ending is hardly a 'Cliffhanger' to leave you desperate for Season 2 but worth a look if it happens. This is science fiction with a very light dusting of horror. Higher budget stuff is out there e.g. From, Silo, Dark Matter...
