What makes this iteration of the franchise interesting is the synthesis of the very same issues we are having today. As much as I love Grease, the original film is overwhelmingly white... So if the creators made the conscious effort to create a Rydell that looked like 50s California, there is going to be Asian, Latin, and black representation. The Mattachine Society was beginning to get its footing at the time. And this was just just before the Civil Rights era and the Chicano movement was underway. If this bothers you, then that is a you problem. Welcome to history. The 50s weren't great for everyone. That said... The show is pretty smart at being what it is... a prequel. A prequel in the 21st century. Nancy is my personal favorite because she's not about romance, something that is a part of high school culture but not part of everyone's narrative. Cynthia's a close second because they are really tonally respecting Cynthia. Hazel I simply adore and I want to see her in a pink jacket so bad. It pains me when she rejects their invitations. JUST SAY YES!!! But overall, I really am enjoying the show and hate that I didn't wait for the season to end to binge watch. It's been a while since I've been excited for a show.
