The die rolls don't seem random, it gives you numbers that seem tweaked to allow or prevent you from too easily getting ahead or behind. If you need a 2 to get another food then somehow you get a 2. I have only played "Normal" mode and sadly, I have only reached mars one time out of 80 attempts. One missed opportunity to repair the right module or one misplaced die or one failure to select the correct research item at the right time results in failure. One misstep = failure at least in normal mode which makes it too difficult. I have not even considered hard mode. The more dice you have the higher to numbers to repair damage which makes it appear that you are playing against an algorithm that has a preset success ratio barring a mistake.
