Sharan 03 – Google

This movie is not for moviegoers who want coherence and a clear idea of what's happening. On surface, the movie appears to be bizarre and aloof like its leading character, but on repeated viewings, you come to realise that your initial assumption is wrong. Kinda wrong. Sure, the dialogue and plot often appear to be incomprehensible and you wonder what just happened and what is happening. This is a cult movie made to satisfy fans of Pynchon.

Perhaps one of the best masala films to be made in the 2000s. The political angle, the rowdy connection, the cop seeking redemption, good guy gets injured badly, good guy decides to make the baddies' lives a living hell, Vivek at his all-time best, the white-skinned, brown-haired village belle, the white-skinned, brown-haired city belle who lived in the dingiest part of town.. Dhool brought all of this. It is one of the best films of the decade and the only film so far to tackle politics, rowdyism and masala, and not bore anyone at any moment. Every scene is entertaining. Must watch!

I liked it but I didn't like it all. Good cast: Lee Pace, Sudekis, Corey Stoll and Judy Greer gave compelling performances. But, as a whole package, the movie lacked the luster of a good Hollywood movie that's set in the early 80s. The first hour is slow-moving and the second hour - while heavily dramatised - is fast but again, lacks the quality of a good movie that's about an FBI sting. I kept thinking of American Hustle the whole time. Personally, I didn't enjoy American Hustle that much but the sting operation portion was interesting to watch. This movie has all the ingredients but not in the right quantities.
