Peele is bringing something unique to the film and screen. His own style of horror that subverts the norm. He’s not into killing porn, jump scares and grotesque images for simply shock value. He does more with less and relies on my viewer’s mind to try to fill in the blanks...and better still, rewards them for paying attention. This could have turned into a simple formulaic slasher with a black cast as heroes but it is so much more. Every image has a purpose, grotesque or mundane. Not a spoiler considering the poster for this film but, he’s made shears menacing and intimate, a subtle killing tool with some potential gruesome ends for anyone unsuspecting. Worth several rewatches! This movie stays with you in different ways for different reasons than Get Out, equally satisfying and refreshing.
