One dimensional characters and one dimensional show. Most shows are anyways. I discovered no matter how educated and sophisticated Americans are, they're always consistently brute and vulgar. The easily angered issue is perpetually there too. Lol. I haven't watched American shows for a decade.
I'll only give them credits for the visual in the vr game. I like the cute little girl too. Yesterday, I fell asleep again while going thru ep 6 or 7. Language is simply inaudible! Every few seconds there'll be profanity. It's so ridiculous I can't be bothered with what they're saying. Still in for the visual presentation of certain hard science eg how higher level dimensions look like.
I much prefer the Tencents version. The female lead Ye Wen Jie is a deep character. Throughout the whole series, yes she is angry and despises humanity but she has no hate for it neither did she press the button out of a petty revenge. The infj Prof Ye is an idealistic empath and she does it out of love. She understands humanity is helpless at the will of greater forces and that can only change with the introduction of an even greater force. She's a rich character, noble and arrogant bcoz of ideals. Throughout her whole life, YWJ is not one to make rash decisions. She's cold, logical and rational. The actresses playing both young and elderly YWJ are professionals! Their eyes speak emotions, the type of emotions one have only after witnessing the verssitudes of life and having struggled in them. In Netflix version, YWJ is the everyday immature karen, unappreciative of life, self-entitled narcissist, the mediocre American villian.
All in all, Tencent's version is philosophical and thought provoking. There are layers beneath the surface, although one gota know abit of history too.
If it's just hard science without humanities, I wouldnt have picked up the books. I'm not a science person, never watched Star Wars or Star Trek but I read Liu's 3 books after finishing Tencent's and even got interested in Quantum Science.
I will not give any star to Netflix's version if I can. Its still a negative score after considering the credits on visual.
